PCOS and the Sugar Monster

The Sugar Monster is a formidable foe for us ladies with PCOS. While sugar is bad for everyone, it’s even worse for us because our bodies can’t process it properly.

(Now don’t get me wrong, I love Cookie Monster. I think him eating veggies is ridiculous, but him eating cookies makes sense. He’s IS Cookie Monster after all. He’s designed that way. We’re not. 🙂 )

Fruit isn’t as bad as added granulated sugar, but you need to watch both. I’ve noticed with fruit, I’m fine, but with added sugar, I have a hard time. Whether it’s a cookie or a few chocolate chips, it triggers in me to crave more. It’s better not to start at all. I’ve been that way for years.  It’s awful.
What makes it even harder is that added sugar is hidden in everything..peanut butter, ketchup, yogurt! It’s ridiculous. Going forward I’m going to be sharing some yummy low sugar recipes to satisfy your sweet fix where the only sugar comes from either fruit, maple syrup or honey. There is some debate over the last two, so I’ll preface it by emphasizing that these are treats. Not something to eat all the time, but they are better than traditional sweet fixes!
