Synopsis: Chemist Barnaby Fulton is getting old. He’s forgetful and has horrible eyesight. He is also trying to discover a formula to lessen the effects of aging. He decides to take the formula himself, not realizing that the one that works was actually invented by one of his monkeys. It improves his eyesight and makes him act like a 20 year old. In Marilyn Monroe’s character’s largest portion of the movie, Barnaby takes her out roller skating and buys a convertible. His wife Edwina mistakenly takes the formula as well which regresses her to her teenage years. Have they really found a formula for the Fountain of Youth?

The Players:
Cary Grant- Grant is here in one of his best comedic performances. He is brilliant in portraying his character under the influence of the formula. I love watching him.. even though that belly flop looked painful!
Ginger Rogers- Here you have a 41 year old Ginger Rogers who proves she’s still got it. Years after her musicals with Astaire, she is great in her comedic timing and a joy to watch.
Marilyn Monroe- This is a different role than you normally see her in being that she is part of the supporting cast. Don’t let the cover of the DVD version fool you, it’s not her movie. She was just 26 at the time and still pretty early in her career. This was a year before Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and 3 years before The Seven Year Itch.
Why you should check it out:
First of all, it’s funny! Laugh out loud, wonderful comedy! Grant and Rogers are a joy to watch in this great light comedy that ends in a good message. You’re only as old as you feel.
Barnaby: Well, it doesn’t come in packages or bottles. You’re old only when you forget you’re young.
Mrs. Edwina Fulton: Come on, say some more.
Barnaby: Hmmm, it’s a word you keep in your heart, a light you have in your eyes, someone you hold in your arms.

My daughter asked for a movie with monkeys in it, so this was easy. Her favorite part was the monkey swinging on the hanging light.
