Announcing the Third Annual Judy Garland Blogathon!

I’m excited to be joining with Crystal at In the Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood for the return of the Judy Garland Blogathon! Judy has been a long-time favorite of mine and we will be paying tribute to her from June 8th through June 10th for the anniversary of her birth!

Like many, I first saw Judy in The Wizard of Oz as a child. The Technicolor sets, the story, and her voice were all mesmerizing. I soon rediscovered her a few years later when my Dad brought home Singin in the Rain for me to watch when I was home sick. Yes, I know she’s not in it, but Gene Kelly is and my fascination with him soon led to his films with Judyโ€”For Me and My Gal, The Pirate, and Summer Stock. It all spiraled from there to more of her films. I was impressed by her versatility as not only a singer, but also as a dancer and an actress.

Inspired by her, I sought out more movie trivia and information about her life. Unfortunately, the two things people seem to fixate on are only Oz and the drugs. There is so much more to her than that and that desire to show people what she was really made of is what inspired me to write The Constricting Corset (under the pen name Dottie Fray), which is coming out on June 10th for her 102nd birthday anniversary.

  1. I’d love to participate! I recently finished Streisand’s autobiography (it’s more than 900 pages long, so excuse me while I take a bow) and would love to write about the ways Judy influenced Barbra’s career.
